Understanding America Through the Lens of Black History and Culture

In September the new National Museum of African American History and Culture will open to the public on the Mall in Washington, DC. The building was designed by David Adjaye and Phil Freelon (LF ‘ 90) in a style unlike any of the other iconic structures on the Mall. Vince Cunningham, writing in this week’s New Yorker, thinks it “might be the most successful modernist design on the Mall so far.” And it’s only taken 100 years to get to this point.
