If events like Hurricane Sandy have laid bare the vulnerabilities of coastal areas, they have also given rise to innovation in the form of new tools, policies, governance frameworks and incentives that are being currently being tested. In “The Design Dividend: An Integrated Approach to Climate Resilience,” Helen Lochhead, this year’s Lincoln Loeb Scholar, uses the Rebuild by Design initiative as a case study to examine how design can solve complex problems through integrated strategies to build resilience, sustainability and liveability.
