Theater artist and educator Marc Bamuthi Joseph and visual artist/vocalist Theaster Gates (Loeb Fellow 2011) join together in red, black & GREEN: a blues (rbGb), an exhilarating new work that combines theater, spoken word, contemporary and hip hop dance, music, and visuals in a performance "as smart and provocative as it is breathtakingly beautiful." (San Francisco Chronicle)
Joseph and Gates invite audiences to look at challenging issues in creative ways; in fact, the opening segment of rbGb begins with the audience on stage, mingling with performers amid Gates' interactive set created from repurposed building materials. Bringing together big ideas and moving personal stories, the performance jump-starts conversations about environmental justice and social ecology, suggesting that nurturing our lives and communities is the first step in nurturing our planet.
