Pershing Park Update

The 5 finalists selected to design a national World War I memorial on the site of Pershing Park in Washington, DC, are expected to be made public today. The announcement was delayed for a week, perhaps because of international outcry about the failure to prioritize preserving Pershing Park, designed by Modernist landscape architect M. Paul Friedberg with plantings by Wolfgang Oehme and James van Sweden. In a Q & A with Architect, Charles Birnbaum (LF ’98) provides some background to the controversy and his reasons why the park should be a national historic landmark.

Look to The Cultural Landscape Foundation for the announcement about the finalists.
