Growing up in a Brooklyn tenement no doubt shaped Michael Pyatok’s (LF 1984, MArch) enduring interest in high quality public and affordable housing. In his thoughtful and respectful design of public housing "cozy communities” throughout the U.S. and abroad Pyatok has built a legacy of social cohesion, has influenced hundreds of young designers and has helped to lower communities’ resistance to mixed income development. He has won hundreds of honors for design, leadership and social responsibility throughout his career and now has been named an AIA Thomas Jefferson Fellow in Public Architecture.
