Matt Kiefer Delivers a Coup for Roxbury

To whet the appetite of Historic Boston Inc., tell the organization and its president Matt Kiefer (LF ’96) that a project is risky or impossible. Kiefer and and his compatriots on the board–including Alex Krieger (professor of urban design), Emily Axelrod (MCP ’76) and Jay Wickersham (associate professor of architecture)–undertook just such a challenge with the Alvah Kittredge House, a abandoned Greek Revival mansion built as a country estate nearly 2 centuries ago in Roxbury, Mass.

The magnificent restoration, completed in August, married historic details with energy efficiency to yield 5 new housing units, 2 of them affordable. Kiefer called it “a great victory for housing preservation and for building preservation.”  Read more about the project and HBI’s work.
