Helen Marriage Lights Up London

Pulling off the first Lumiere festival in London during the January doldrums–closing off the entire city center to traffic, dousing the lights, and giving the city back to the people–required the kind of political and infrastructural gymnastics at which Helen Marriage (LF ’13) excels. Among the spectacular artworks on display, Janet Echelman’s “1.8 London” was suspended from 4 buildings. Happily Marriage is an artist of the possible. And she was awarded an MBE (Order of the British Empire) for her troubles.

The NY Times and the Guardian covered it, and you can see many of the light installations on the Lumiere website.
