Hurrah for Glenn LaRue Smith (LF ’97)! His firm PUSH Studio and partners Piet Oudolf and WXY Architecture and Urban Design are among the 6 finalist teams for the 11th Street Bridge Park competition in Washington, DC. The obsolete bridge connects the Navy Yard and the historic Anacostia neighborhood and will become the city’s first elevated park and an iconic venue for healthy recreation, environmental education and the arts.
The competition is stiff. Other finalists include GSD faculty Eric Höweler pairing with FOL (friend of the Loebs) Chris Reed’s firm Stoss Landscape Architecture; OMA and Ken Smith are also in the running. The teams will pitch to the jury (which includes Toni Griffin, LF ’98) later this month.
