Portland, Oregon's mayor-elect Charlie Hales has chosen Gail Shibley (LF 2000) to be chief of staff in his new administration. Shibley - current public health administrator, former state rep and veteran of the Clinton White House - was chosen particularly because she is not likely always to agree with Hales. "We're not two peas in a pod," he says. "We won't always think alike. But I sense in her a real spirit of innovation. Let's shake things up."
Shibley’s appointment is hailed by bicycle activists because of her broad transportation and public health experience at the city, state and federal levels and her advocacy for safe streets and alternative transportation.
