Facelift for NYC Parks

Facelift for NYC Parks

Angelyn Chandler (LF ’14) returned to NYC Parks after her Loeb year and is now leading the new Community Parks Initiative capital program.  The large NYC park success stories are well known–the conversion of Staten Island landfill to Freshkills Park, which Chandler oversaw, is a notable example. Now the hundreds of neglected small parks in low income neighborhoods throughout the 5 boroughs will get their due under her watchful eye. With her architect’s training, artist’s sensibility and knowledge of green infrastructure, she’s the right person at the right time. The New York Times covered the public launch of the initiative; read “Correction Seen After Years of Disinvestment in Neighborhood Parks.”
