Doebele Fellowship Launches

Abhinay Sharma (MDesS 2014) has found the ideal way to pursue his interest in exploring the common ground between sustainability and architecture. As the inaugural William A. Doebele Fellow in Community Design, Sharma is spending the summer at Neighborworks Blackstone River Valley, Woonsocket, RI, where his internship is supporting the development of quality affordable housing. In Sharma’s report of his first couple of weeks, he details his experiences collecting vital data from neighborhood residents and developing a site analysis.

The Doebele Fellowship was conceived in 2010 on the occasion of the Loeb Fellowship’s 40th Anniversary. A Loeb alumni fund raising effort generated funds for an endowment in honor of founding curator William Doebele. Each year a current GSD student will receive a stipend to bring design and planning skills to a non-profit or government organization during a summer internship. The program is administered through the Office of Career Services at the Graduate School of Design.
