Denise Scott Brown Gets the Gold

The American Institute of Architects has awarded its 2016 AIA Gold Medal to Denise Scott Brown and Robert Venturi, the first duo to receive the honor as the result of a 2013 bylaws change. The GSD’s Women in Design group, especially Loeblogger Caroline James (MArch ’14) and Arielle Assouline-Lichten (MArch ’13), can rightly claim some credit for the milestone, since their petition to reverse the earlier Pritzker Prize–which went solely to Venturi–drew worldwide attention to what Metropolis calls “the woman problem” in architecture.
