Cynthia Davidson to Curate the US Exhibition at Venice Biennale

Cynthia Davidson (LF ’89) and Monica Ponce de Leon, dean of Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, have been selected by the State Department as curators of the United States Pavilion exhibition in the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale. The Architectural Imagination,” will present new architectural ideas produced for sites in Detroit but with far-reaching application for cities around the world. The curators will recalibrate the importance of the architectural imagination by calling for projects that demonstrate the creativity and resourcefulness of architectural teams in addressing urban and environmental issues in the 21st century city.

Cynthia Davidson is executive director of the nonprofit Anyone Corporation in NY and editor of the international architecture journal, Log, devoted to advancing architectural thought and writing. In addition to her role as dean of Taubman, Monica Ponce de Leon is principal of MPdL Studio.

By the way, the most recent issue of Log takes as its theme food and the intersection with architecture and contains an article by Shantel Blakely, public programs manager at the GSD.
