The California Endowment is sponsoring Breaking New Ground, an international design and ideas competition addressing the urgent affordable housing needs of farmworker and service worker families in the Coachella Valley. The competition seeks architectural and policy solutions to re-envision the near-term housing future for this population. The winning entries will embody not only compelling architecture but also social, economic and environmental sustainability and healthfulness for the community.
Through the "Laboratory," an online and live event platform, the competition will host forums addressing the competition’s four major issues: financial models, regulatory frameworks, social services, and holistic design.
Registration opens in October for an Open Division and a Student Division. See the Breaking New Ground website for information, notifications and registration.
