Alexandra Lange on the New Strategic Architecture

In a recent column in the NY Times, Alexandra Lange (LF ’14) lauds the new Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Boston’s Dudley Square as an example of the new “strategic architecture: projects that combine the forces of community activism and historic preservation with government muscle, encourage future development through eye-catching design, and link to the parks, plazas, bike paths and libraries that give neighborhoods a center.” Among a host of other projects working this kind of magic, Lange calls out Theaster Gates’s (LF ’11) Stony Island Arts Bank, due to open next spring.
