Now that Maurice Cox (LF ’05) is the planning crusader overseeing Detroit’s rebirth, he’s making the planning department–which now includes Steven Lewis (urban design director, Central District and LF ’07) and Kimberly Driggins (director of strategic development and LF ’16)–the center of innovation and design. Their strategies include encouraging affordable housing and urban ag, pairing stable and distressed neighborhoods, and supporting transit oriented development and walkable streets.
