A Legacy (City) for the Venice Biennale

For the US Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Biennale, cocurators Cynthia Davidson (LF ‘89 and Anyone Corporation director) and Princeton School of Architecture dean Mónica Ponce de León are counting on Detroit, the prototypical post-industrial city, to illuminate their theme “The Architectural Imagination.” They’ve involved community groups and city leaders like planning director Maurice Cox (LF ’02) in order to commission speculative architectural designs that will be grounded in the urban reality as well as in the city’s legacy of creativity and innovation. The pavilion is intended to model modern architectural thinking and process and showcase the art of the possible.
